How It Works

How AussieGrade calculates your results, why the scales are configurable, and what to check before you rely on a number.

1. You enter your results

Type your subject marks, grades and credit points into the relevant calculator. Everything happens on the page — results update instantly as you type, with no account and no submission.

2. The calculator applies the method you selected

WAM uses the standard credit-point weighted formula. GPA converts grades to grade points using the scale you chose. Because Australian universities differ, scales are configuration, not assumptions: you can switch scales and watch results change, which makes differences between universities concrete.

3. You get a result — plus the working

Every calculator shows a breakdown table so you can trace each step and spot a typo before it becomes a wrong conclusion. Planning tools (Target WAM, Final Grade) solve the same formulas backwards and tell you honestly when a target is impossible.

4. You verify against your official record

AussieGrade is an independent study tool. Universities apply their own rules on fails, conceded passes, hurdles, weighting by year level and rounding. Treat every result here as a close guide, and confirm important decisions — honours, transfers, scholarships — against your official transcript.

Privacy, by design

Your calculations are performed in your browser and are not sent to our server. There are no accounts, no saved marks and no tracking of what you enter.

The formulas, in one place

WAM = Σ (mark × credit points) ÷ Σ (credit points)

GPA = Σ (grade points × credit points) ÷ Σ (credit points)

Required remaining average = [ target × total CP − current WAM × completed CP ] ÷ remaining CP
